Hormone Replacement Therapy

RESTORING LEVELS THAT ARE NATURAL TO THE HUMAN BODY
Hormonal balance is ideally, a dynamic equilibrium that shifts from day to day, week to week, and through the years. When you give your body the support it needs, it can effectively reset itself, because it’s equipped and programmed for balance and wellness.

What are bio-identical hormones, or BHRT?
Bio-identical hormones are identical to what our body naturally produces, molecule by molecule. These hormones have the same chemical structure and shape, allowing the hormones to fit into all the body's receptors.
Non Bio-identical hormones (typically referred to as synthetic) do not have the same shape. This altered shape can cause side effects or unwanted results. Bio and Non bio-identical are both created in labs, but they are very different in results.

Why should I use bio-identical hormones?
As life expectancy continues to rise, our bodies are forcing the glands which create our hormones to produce them longer than ever. We also live in a society with increasingly stressful lives, poor nutrition, and lack of proper fitness. This can all lead to declining levels of hormones in our bodies, in addition to the natural decline of hormone levels with age.

When should I consider Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy?
If you are experiencing symptoms, we encourage patients to have their hormone levels checked. Hormone levels naturally begin declining in our 30s.Patient treatment should not be based solely on  age. Some patients are in their late 20s to early 30s and have many symptoms, such as fatigue, low libido, headaches, irritability, just to name a few symptoms.

Will all of my symptoms be eliminated?
Again, it is all patient specific. Some patients have complete symptom relief, some patients report simply less symptoms with BHRT. The vast majority of patients are elated with the results of BHRT. Our goal is to improve each patient's quality of life. We strive to eliminate as many symptoms as possible, with the main priority being our patient's health.

How do I get started?
The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Milligan. The next step is to have some lab work done. This will show a patient's hormone levels. Some patients point out that they have already had lab work done and  they are within their normal range. Example, “normal” range for your age does not mean that is our  BHRT “goal” range. Our goal is to eliminate symptoms, to make you feel as when you were younger and without symptoms.

Is hormone therapy just for women?
No, hormone therapy is both for women and men. As we age, women and men both experience a decline in hormone therapy. For both sexes, there may be unwanted symptoms such as fatigue, irritablility, and loss of sex drive to name a few.

Do I need to stay on Hormone Replacement Therapy program forever?
No, it is up to the patient. However, if you decide to stop the program, your hormone levels  will return to where they were prior to starting treatment along with the symptoms. The numerous benefits that you will get from hormone replacement therapy are due to the optimization of hormone levels.
